I like clothes and accessories best, but it's true, different people like different things. I've never even seen a furniture item that I couldn't do without until the theater seats (though I'm hoping to get them for Christmas [img]smile.gif[/img] ). I have no use for a doll bed (and no room!); in fact, one of my dolls doesn't have a nightgown yet (I AM going to make her one though!), and the other has hardly even been in hers, except to show it off. The desks don't appeal to me either (I do love Kit's, but I don't have a doll who could use it, and I don't have the room besides).
Some people mostly buy dolls, and have very few clothes for them (after all, four outfits can equal a doll in price!). I prefer to have two dolls and a lot of nice things for them. Some people try to get one doll's entire collection, some people get whatever items catch their eye, and some people (like me) are in-between; I get mostly things that are specific for the doll, but aren't above getting other things (lots of Addy things, and those theater seats) for my Kirsten and Nellie...they're close enough historically, and I like those items so much, I can give them to Kirsten and Nellie. Kirsten's lunch is good. Nicole has that one.
Cassie likes Addy's because you can spell Love.
I love Kit's lunch box.
The weekend baking set is terrific, but retired. They may have some on Ebay? The outfit is super cute too with oven mitts and a sweet apron.
I would say Kaya's lunch is my favorite though.

You're right, the books are fantastic. It's the first "chapter book" that my 6 year old has really been excited about...could it be because I read it with a little more enthusiasm?! We got a few from the library, but they didn't have any about Kirsten when we were there so I'm hoping they'll have some when we return these.
Thank you all so much for the advice...I just like hearing what the "professionals'" opinions are. It really does spark new ideas and interest in certain items I hadn't considered as much!
OH MY WORD!!! It's tomorrow already and I'm sitting here at the computer trying to figure out what play food and miniature furniture and cute clothes I need for a doll that I haven't even received yet!!!
I appreciate all of the responses to this thread...it can be a little overwhelming (in a good way) when you first jump in and this is really giving me some great direction and ideas! I look forward to see any new advice tomorrow!

I really like what my younger sister is doing with her little girls: She is telling them they can't choose their historical until they read all the books. Then, they will make a more "educated" decision, and have a good incentive for reading along the way. Her oldest girl read everything and chose Molly for her birthday. She is collecting the clothes first, and a few of the accessories. I gave her a few dress forms to help her display the clothes nicely, and she is really doing well with keeping everything nice because she waited and chose so carefully.
I probably would have been able to do this with my youngest daughter, except when you are collecting for yourself as well as your daughters...well...let's just say I wasn't very good at waiting and being patient myself... [img]wink.gif[/img]
My girls have both enjoyed the books over the years, and have read them all over and over.
So, I guess what I'm saying is enjoy the books first, and you will probably find out which dolls, clothes, furniture and accessories will end up meaning the most to you based on how you felt about the stories.

I think getting a catalog and looking at it with your daughter will help narrow down which doll calls to you both.
You can also set up the wish list on the AG web site and have your daughter add the items to the list she likes.
As I am guessing you know the dolls fall into three categorizes: Historical, Just like you and
Limited Edition.
Jess is this years Limited Edition. In December she will be retired and taken out of the stores and no longer for sale. I would start looking at her. She has a small collection and right now you can buy her world.

Wow - Kirsten - what a great choice! She was my first doll as well. I've been collecting for her for many years and now have her entire collection minus 2 outfits. I will say that out of EVERYTHING Kirsten has, my NUMBER ONE favorite item is her night table. That is an incredibly well-made piece and is just soooooo adorable! I am a huge fan of starting a doll's collection out with the nighttime stuff, so I would recommend those items! Her flannel nightgown is awesome (especially if you can get your hands on a Pre-Mattel version off Ebay), and her robe is TOO CUTE!
And for Bitty - I've said it before, and I'll say it again...hehee...my number one favorite item right now is the Bitty Things Storage Chest. It is super sturdy and a wonderful piece to store items in. If you're a mom who likes things tidy, this is a great item to have.

My first doll was Molly and I am slowly completing her collection but along the way I have purchased several of the AGT outfits and accessories because they are so cute.
Lately I have bought some of Kit's outfits and accessories ie. Kit's Denim Overalls, Kit's School outfit, Kit's Typewriter set and her Waffle Iron set.
I did buy Molly's table and chairs off ebay several years ago for a great price but other than that I prefer clothes and accessories.

"MYKIDSLOVEAG", you must also be a kindred spirit when you mentioned Little House on the Prairie!!! I think that is one of the reasons DD was drawn to Kirsten. I'm also considering moving out west so I can take advantage of that warehouse sale you were talking about!!! LOL
The closest family I have in that area is in Colorado and he would rather be shot than go to anything like that!
I love the idea of the nightgown---I hadn't thought of that. I think I saw that at the website...was it listed as being called underclothes or something like that? I agree that the furniture for Kirsten is not my favorite so I am leaning towards Addy's bed and maybe washstand eventually. I really love that school desk too and had been wondering if 2 dolls could actually sit at it. I'm going to start really comparing the lunches also...I do remember being drawn to the tin pail.
I have already been to Sam's and they didn't have any books right now but had some kind of Mystery Game set for Samantha. I'll keep a look out.
I'm headed to some of the Fall Festivals here in Central VA in the next few weeks and am hoping to find some handmade doll clothes or primitive doll furniture. I'll keep you posted.
MOMTOJILLIAN, oh yes, we will definitely be planning a "baking" day for us and the girls...I can't wait! Maybe we can coordinate that with the movie event or something (since this is all your fault anyway!!!LOL)
